More practical bathroom in the district of Leuk

DomusHelp helps organize practical support to make a bathroom clearer, more comfortable and easier to use in everyday life in the district of Leuk and Upper Valais. This subcategory concerns simple tasks around the washbasin, shower, bathtub, toilet, towels, toiletries, laundry basket, bath mat, accessible storage, mirror, bin or objects used regularly in the bathroom. The interventions must remain simple, non-medical, without help with intimate hygiene, without transferring a person, without care tasks, without plumbing, without electrical work, without drilling, without installing fixed equipment, without lasting modification of the home and always based on clear instructions from the person concerned, the owner, the property manager or the responsible person when this is necessary.

What this help covers

This help may concern gentle and practical organization of the bathroom: bringing clean towels closer, making soap or toilet paper easier to reach, grouping products used every day, removing empty bottles, separating products to be checked without throwing them away without agreement, clearing the edge of the washbasin, freeing a passage to the shower or toilet, repositioning a small basket, laying flat an existing bath mat if it is not slippery, placing a useful object in a clearer location or reporting that storage, a threshold, a surface, lighting or a support seems impractical or unsafe. It may also include helping the person express a concrete need to a relative, property manager, occupational therapist, home support service or qualified craftsperson, without choosing equipment on their behalf, without modifying the room and without intervening in a care, mobility or complex safety situation. The aim is to make daily use of the bathroom simpler, more dignified and less tiring, while respecting the person’s privacy, habits, physical limits and control over their personal belongings.

The bathroom is a sensitive room: risk of slipping, falling, burns, humidity, electricity, water leak, mould, irritating products, medication, intimate hygiene items, incontinence, pain, fatigue, loss of balance, difficulty entering the shower or bathtub, difficulty sitting down or getting up. DomusHelp does not replace a doctor, occupational therapist, physiotherapist, home help and care service, trained family caregiver, plumber, electrician, carpenter, renovation company, property manager, owner, caretaker or emergency service. In case of a recent fall, injury, faintness, confusion, significant loss of independence, need for help washing, dressing, using the toilet or transferring, unstable shower seat, poorly fixed grab bar, water leak, dangerous electrical socket, very slippery floor, mould, suspicious smell, burn, wound, blood, exposed medication or immediate risk to a person, the intervention must not continue as simple practical help. No support device, seat, raised toilet seat, bar, permanent anti-slip mat, furniture, tap, hose, lighting, socket, ventilation or fixed element must be installed, removed, drilled, moved permanently or validated without a professional framework and clear authorization.

Preferred providers

Insured light everyday adaptation service

Suitable for simple, short and reversible tasks: bringing a towel closer, organizing everyday products, clearing a small passage, putting an object within reach, reporting an unstable bath mat, visually checking that the space remains clear or passing on a clear observation to the person, a relative, the property manager or a competent professional.

Occupational therapist, physiotherapist or qualified home support service

Suitable when the person has mobility difficulties, fears falling, uses a cane, walker or wheelchair, needs help entering the shower or bathtub, getting up, sitting down, washing, dressing or using the toilet, or when a shower seat, raised toilet seat, grab bar, anti-slip mat or lasting adaptation needs to be assessed.

Plumber, electrician, property manager, owner or qualified craftsperson

Suitable when there is a leak, blocked drain, faulty tap, hot water problem, insufficient ventilation, mould, dangerous lighting, socket close to water, damaged tiling, unstable fixing, furniture to install, a bar to fit or a modification involving the home, lease, insurance or the owner’s responsibility.

Before the intervention

  • Identify the area concerned: washbasin, shower, bathtub, toilet, bathroom cabinet, mirror, laundry basket, towel rail, mat, shelf, cupboard, threshold or passage in the room.
  • Clarify the exact need: object too far away, product hard to distinguish, towel out of reach, cluttered passage, mat in the way, storage too high, insufficient lighting, unstable seat or difficulty using the room.
  • Confirm the person’s agreement before moving a product, opening furniture, touching a laundry basket, grouping hygiene items, removing an empty bottle or accessing an intimate area.
  • Identify sensitive items before acting: medication, dressings, incontinence protection, razors, irritating products, medical devices, personal documents, jewellery or objects the person wants to keep private.
  • Check visible risks: wet floor, mat that slips, electrical cable, socket close to water, leak, mould, broken glass, heavy object, loose bar, unstable chair or poor ventilation.
  • Use only light and reversible actions: simple tidying, bringing an object closer, removing an obstacle, observation, reporting or preparing a request to pass on to a competent person.
  • Never physically help the person wash, enter the shower, get out of the bathtub, get up from the toilet, dress, undress or carry out an intimate task if this goes beyond ordinary and clearly framed presence.
  • Stop the intervention if the situation involves a recent fall, injury, medical emergency, significant loss of independence, leak, electrical problem, unstable installation or uncertain immediate safety.
