Accessible storage in the district of Sion

DomusHelp helps organize practical support to make storage at home more accessible, easier to understand and better adapted to everyday movements in the district of Sion. This subcategory concerns simple adjustments: bringing frequently used objects closer, avoiding storage that is too high or too low, limiting the need to climb on a step stool, reducing repeated bending, grouping useful objects by area, improving visibility inside cupboards or preparing a safer organization together with the person concerned. The help must remain practical, non-medical and non-intrusive, without deciding on behalf of the person, without imposed sorting and without heavy work.

What this help covers

This help may concern storage in the kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, entrance, living room, laundry room, accessible cellar or small storage room, when the intervention remains simple and respectful. DomusHelp can help identify objects used every day, suggest placing them at a more comfortable height, group belongings by use, improve access to boxes or baskets, clear a passage in front of a cupboard, prepare simple labels or help the person regain a storage logic that makes sense to them.

DomusHelp does not replace an occupational therapist, a health professional, a home help service, a decluttering specialist, a craftsperson, a carpenter, a property management office or a relative mandated for sensitive decisions. Storage often touches privacy, memories, documents, medication, valuables and the feeling of control over one’s own home. Nothing should be thrown away, moved permanently, donated, sold or made inaccessible without the clear agreement of the person concerned. In case of a recent fall, cognitive difficulties, disorientation, severe fatigue, difficulty bending down or raising the arms, significant accumulation, an unsanitary home, family conflict, valuables, official documents, medication, medical equipment or doubt about decision-making capacity, the pace must slow down and the request should be referred to a professional or competent service.

Preferred providers

Practical support or supervised home help

Suitable for repositioning light objects, grouping everyday belongings, clearing simple access, preparing boxes or baskets, helping read a label or restoring order in a limited area, always with the person present or clearly in agreement.

Occupational therapist or health professional

Suitable when storage is linked to loss of autonomy, pain, fall risk, memory difficulties, difficult transfers or the use of a cane, walker or wheelchair. The assessment helps adapt storage to the person’s actual movements.

Craftsperson, carpenter or qualified installer

Suitable when a cupboard needs to be modified, a pull-out system added, a storage element fixed, a rail lowered, a shelf secured or work carried out on a fixed element. Questions of load, fixing, wall type and responsibility must be checked.

Before the intervention

  • Ask the person what they want to make more accessible, without imposing an outside logic.
  • Identify objects used every day, every week or only rarely.
  • Place frequently used objects first at a comfortable height, without a step stool, without excessive stretching and without risky bending.
  • Avoid placing heavy, sharp, hot, fragile or dangerous objects high up.
  • Distinguish personal objects, memories, official documents, valuables, keys, payment methods and medication.
  • Never sort, move or dispose of documents, memories or private objects without explicit agreement.
  • Check that storage does not block a passage, door, window, radiator, socket, emergency access or circulation area.
  • Observe lighting, label readability, box stability, cupboard height and ease of opening.
  • Avoid any intervention requiring work at height, heavy carrying or moving unstable furniture.
  • Protect confidentiality when papers, personal data, prescriptions, invoices or intimate objects are visible.
  • Refuse any intervention if the storage issue appears linked to a medical, cognitive, family, legal, financial or safety problem that goes beyond simple help.

What DomusHelp does not cover

  • Medical, occupational therapy or psychological assessment of autonomy.
  • Sorting medication, changing a pill organizer, managing prescriptions or making any decision linked to treatment.
  • Legal, tax, inheritance, banking or administrative sorting of sensitive documents.
  • Deciding to throw away, donate, sell, permanently move or hide an object without the person’s clear agreement.
  • Heavy decluttering, unsanitary housing, severe accumulation or any situation requiring a specialized service.
  • Moving heavy furniture, carrying risky loads or handling that requires several people.
  • Fixing, drilling, cupboard modification, installation of suspended storage or intervention on fixed furniture without a qualified professional.
  • Work at height, use of large ladders or access to dangerous areas.
  • Pressure to adopt an organization, buy equipment, remove objects or modify the home.
  • Guaranteeing autonomy, fall prevention, total safety or long-term maintenance of order.
