Night movement and orientation cues in the district of Brig

DomusHelp helps organize practical support to make night movement and simple orientation cues inside the home easier in the district of Brig. This subcategory concerns everyday needs: clearing the path between the bed and toilet, improving discreet lighting, making a switch easier to find, placing a non-glare night light, avoiding cables, rugs or objects in passageways, setting up simple visual cues or repositioning useful objects. The help must remain practical, non-medical and non-electrical in the technical sense, non-intrusive, without any promise of fall prevention and without changing the home without clear agreement.

What this help covers

This help may concern the route between the bed, bathroom, toilet, corridor, kitchen, entrance or a room used at night. DomusHelp can help identify visible obstacles, check whether a simple night light or motion lighting without complex installation is suitable, bring a bedside lamp closer, make a switch easier to see, clear a passage, place non-obstructive orientation cues, check that a cane, glasses or indoor shoes are within reach, or prepare a request to a professional when the installation goes beyond a simple task.

DomusHelp does not replace a doctor, occupational therapist, physiotherapist, nurse, electrician, home help service, property management office, owner or home safety specialist. Night movement may be linked to a recent fall, loss of balance, reduced vision, pain, urinary urgency, medication, disorientation, cognitive difficulty or anxiety. In case of a fall, dizziness, confusion, leaving the home at night, discomfort, strong fear, recent behaviour change, defective lighting, old electrical installation, visible cable, stairs, bathroom access or uncertainty about safety, the request must be referred to a qualified professional. DomusHelp does not prescribe assistive devices, does not modify electrical installations and does not guarantee autonomy, absence of falls or medical improvement.

Preferred providers

Occupational therapist or health professional

Suitable when night movement is linked to a fall, loss of autonomy, reduced vision, pain, balance problems, disorientation or the use of a cane, walker or wheelchair. The assessment helps adapt cues to the person’s actual movements.

Electrician or qualified installer

Suitable when lighting needs to be added, moved or repaired, a sensor installed, a switch modified, or work carried out on a socket, cable, fixed light or any electrical installation in the home.

Supervised home help or local support

Suitable for simple tasks: clearing a passage, bringing an existing lamp closer, checking that a non-technical night light works, repositioning light objects or reporting a dark area, always with the agreement of the person concerned.

Before the intervention

  • Clarify the routes actually used at night: bed, toilet, bathroom, corridor, kitchen, entrance or another room.
  • Ask the person what is difficult: darkness, fear of falling, hard-to-find switch, rug, cable, furniture, threshold or disorientation.
  • Check whether there has been a recent fall, dizziness, pain, reduced vision, confusion or behaviour change.
  • Observe the floor route: rugs, wires, low furniture, shoes, thresholds, pet accessories, baskets, bags or temporary obstacles.
  • Plan soft continuous or motion lighting that does not glare and does not create strong shadows.
  • Check that the bedside lamp, switch, glasses, cane, indoor shoes and phone are within reach.
  • Do not permanently move familiar objects, furniture or cues without the person’s clear agreement.
  • Avoid extension leads, floor cables, unstable power strips or lamps that create a new fall risk.
  • Do not work on a socket, cable, switch, fixed light or electrical installation without a qualified professional.
  • Respect privacy when the route concerns the bedroom, toilet or bathroom.
  • Refuse any intervention if safety, the origin of the problem or decision-making capacity are not clear.
