This help may consist of preparing a clean and well-lit surface, seating the person comfortably, checking their wishes, washing or cleaning the hands in a simple way, using clean equipment, filing the nails, evening out the length when this causes neither pain nor risk, applying moisturizing cream, carrying out a light non-therapeutic hand massage, applying classic nail polish, removing simple nail polish with a suitable product, putting equipment away, disposing of ordinary waste and leaving the passage clear after the intervention. It can also help distinguish a simple aesthetic manicure from a situation requiring a qualified beautician, a specialized institute, a pharmacy, a doctor, a dermatologist or another health professional.

Before the intervention

• Obtain the person’s clear agreement on the service, price, duration, products used and level of physical contact accepted.
• Understand their preferences: nail length, shape, color, no polish, discretion, simplicity or a particular beauty preparation.
• Check known allergies, sensitivity to smells, reactions to certain products, skin fragility or discomfort with solvents.
• Observe the visible condition of the hands and nails without making a diagnosis, and stop if a wound, pain, redness, swelling or abnormality is concerning.

• Handling valuables, payment means, personal data or private documents without necessity and without clear agreement.
• Management of a medical emergency, significant allergic reaction, faintness, injury or situation requiring a health professional.
