It can also help clarify whether the difficulty comes from lack of light, glare, a weak bulb, an unstable lamp, a poorly placed switch, an obstacle on the floor, reduced vision, fatigue, balance difficulty or an electrical problem that requires a qualified professional. The aim is to make indoor movement easier to read and more comfortable, without promising total safety, without modifying the electrical installation and without masking a medical, visual or technical situation that requires a specialized assessment.

Before the intervention

• Identify the areas concerned precisely: entrance, hallway, bedroom, toilet, bathroom, kitchen, living room, stairs, cellar, laundry room, indoor garage or night-time path.
• Describe the main difficulty: room too dark, switch difficult to find, glare, strong shadow, insufficient contrast, lamp too far away, visible cable or poorly marked passage.
• Ask whether the person has fallen, nearly fallen, been afraid of falling, felt dizzy, had reduced vision, night-time confusion or difficulty moving in the dark.
• Check real uses: getting up at night, access to the toilet, returning with bags, moving with a cane, walker, wheelchair, home help, child or pet.
• Observe existing light sources: bedside lamp, floor lamp, ceiling light, wall light, night light, switch, socket, extension cable or power strip, without dismantling the installation.
• Check that any action remains simple: moving a light lamp, orienting existing lighting, visual marker, accessible bulb without dangerous height, without opening a complex light fitting.
• Avoid extension cables on the floor, overloaded power strips, cables in a passage, unstable lamps, overly glaring lighting or solutions that create a new fall risk.
• Do not work on a socket, switch, cable, fixed light, electrical panel, built-in installation or damp area without a qualified professional.
• Check that the improvement does not block a door, window, exit, caregiver access, emergency passage or daily use of furniture.
• Test the lighting with the person if possible, especially from the bed, entrance, hallway or path to the toilet, without promising that fall risk disappears.
• Prepare a useful note or photo for the electrician, property manager, owner or occupational therapist when the solution goes beyond a simple adjustment.
• In case of doubt about health, vision, electricity, safety, authorization or required skill, stop the simple request and refer it to the competent service.

• Modification of a rented home, shared area or equipment belonging to a third party without clear authorization from the property manager, owner or responsible person.
• Promising to prevent falls, compensate for reduced vision, guarantee electrical compliance or replace urgent or qualified intervention.
