Seating, small supports and comfort in the district of Brig

DomusHelp helps organize practical support to improve the comfort of seating, small supports and everyday home arrangements in the district of Brig and Upper Valais. This subcategory concerns everyday needs: making a chair, armchair or rest area easier to use, bringing a side table closer, placing a non-slip cushion, checking that a light footrest does not block the passage, repositioning a seat toward a more accessible area, avoiding an unstable stool, clearing the space around an armchair, making an existing armrest easier to access or preparing a request to a professional when the situation goes beyond a simple comfort task. The help must remain simple, non-medical, non-therapeutic, not linked to the prescription of a technical aid, non-structural, without transferring a person, without carrying a person, without fixing anything to a wall, floor or piece of furniture, without lasting modification unless there is clear agreement and without any promise of total safety, autonomy, absence of falls or absence of pain.

What this help covers

This help may concern rest areas and everyday-use areas: living room, bedroom, kitchen, entrance, reading corner, space for putting on shoes, armchair near a window, dining chair, simple office chair or seating used for waiting, resting or receiving visitors. DomusHelp can help identify a seat that is too low, too high, too far away, poorly placed or obstructed by objects, check that a passage remains clear around an armchair, bring a lamp, a light table, glasses, a phone or a glass of water closer, reposition a light chair with the person’s agreement, report an unstable support, compare several possible positions without imposing a choice, or prepare a request to an occupational therapist, a technical-aid supplier, a craftsperson or a home care service when the situation requires a specialized assessment.

DomusHelp does not replace a doctor, occupational therapist, physiotherapist, nurse, home care service, technical-aid supplier, carpenter, upholsterer, electrician, property manager, owner or home adaptation specialist. Difficulty sitting down, standing up, remaining seated, transferring body weight or using a support may be linked to a recent fall, loss of balance, pain, weakness, a neurological condition, significant fatigue, reduced mobility, a pressure sore, disorientation or loss of autonomy. In case of a fall, dizziness, unusual pain, difficulty standing up, need for physical help, wheelchair, walker, cane, rise-and-recline chair, medical bed, skin lesion, cognitive disorder, marked fatigue, unstable furniture, heavy load or doubt about safety, the request must be referred to a qualified professional. DomusHelp does not prescribe technical aids, does not adjust medical devices, does not lift a person, does not carry out transfers and guarantees neither lasting comfort, nor autonomy, nor absence of falls, nor medical improvement.

Preferred providers

Occupational therapist or health professional

Suitable when the seating or support concerns difficulty standing up, loss of autonomy, pain, a recent fall, balance problems, significant fatigue, the use of a cane, walker or wheelchair or the need for a technical aid. The assessment helps adapt the seating to the person’s real movements, mobility, safety and pace.

Technical-aid supplier, adapted furniture provider or qualified craftsperson

Suitable when a specialized seat, a rise-and-recline chair, an adapted seat raiser, a stable support, a furniture element, an armchair repair, a furniture modification or a solution requiring technical skill needs to be selected, delivered, adjusted or installed.

Supervised home care support or local support

Suitable for simple and reversible tasks: bringing a light table closer, clearing a passage, repositioning a non-heavy chair, checking that a cushion does not slip, reporting an unstable seat or placing useful objects within reach, always with the clear agreement of the person concerned.

Before the intervention

  • Clarify the room and the real use: meals, rest, reading, television, putting on shoes, waiting, visits or getting up from bed.
  • Ask the person what is causing difficulty: seat too low, uncomfortable backrest, lack of armrest, fatigue, pain, fear of falling or difficulty standing up.
  • Check whether there has been a recent fall, dizziness, unusual pain, reduced mobility, confusion or a change in behaviour.
  • Observe the environment around the seat: rugs, cables, low furniture, animals, baskets, bags, thresholds, lighting, passage space and access to the phone.
  • Check the visible stability of the seat: legs, backrest, armrests, height, depth, wheels, brakes, cushion, footrest or moving element.
  • Avoid unlocked wheeled chairs, unstable stools, stacked cushions, improvised supports or furniture that tips over easily.
  • Preserve sufficient passage for the person, relatives, carers, a cane, walker, wheelchair or emergency services.
  • Do not fix any bar, handle, support, raiser or holding element to a wall, floor or piece of furniture without a qualified professional.
  • Do not permanently move an armchair, table, plant, familiar marker or habit without the clear agreement of the person concerned.
  • Stop the intervention if the person needs physical help to sit down, stand up, transfer or maintain balance.
  • Check that objects brought closer do not create a new obstacle, overload, fall risk or obstruction for care and home support.
  • Refuse any intervention if safety, the origin of the problem, the stability of the furniture or decision-making capacity are not clear.

  • Installation of grab bars, wall handles, handrails, support poles, anchored supports or elements fixed to a wall, floor or piece of furniture.
