Fall prevention in the district of Brig

DomusHelp helps organise practical support to reduce the risk of falls at home in the district of Brig and Upper Valais. This subcategory concerns small everyday adjustments: obstacles on the floor, slippery rugs, cluttered passages, insufficient lighting, simple supports, thresholds, stairs, bathroom and night-time movement. Interventions must remain simple, non-medical, non-structural and adapted to the home.

What this help covers

This help may concern identifying risk areas in the home: poorly secured rugs, cables on the floor, obstructive furniture, passages that are too narrow, lack of light, difficult thresholds, slippery floors or night-time movement that is not sufficiently safe.

DomusHelp does not replace a medical, occupational therapy or nursing assessment. In the event of a recent fall, faintness, significant loss of balance, pain, dizziness or high risk, the person must be referred to a healthcare professional or to the competent services.

Preferred providers

Occupational therapist / home adaptation specialist

Suitable when a person has a repeated risk of falling, loss of mobility, a hospital discharge or a need for a more complete assessment of the home.

Insured small repair service

Suitable for small practical adjustments: removing an obstacle, securing a non-slip rug, improving a passage, installing a simple support or securing a light element.

Supervised local support

Suitable only for very simple actions: moving a small piece of furniture, clearing a passage, tidying a cable or improving immediate visibility.

Before the intervention

  • Identify the places where the person walks most often.
  • Check sensitive areas: entrance, corridor, bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and stairs.
  • Identify rugs, cables, thresholds, furniture corners and objects on the floor.
  • Observe whether lighting is sufficient, especially at night.
  • Ask whether there has already been a recent fall or fear of falling.
  • Refuse any intervention if the risk goes beyond a simple practical adjustment.

What DomusHelp does not cover

  • Medical diagnosis or health assessment.
  • Installation of heavy or structural equipment.
  • Electrical, plumbing or masonry work.
  • Complex home adaptation without a qualified professional.
  • Intervention after a serious fall without medical advice.
  • Promise of total safety or complete removal of the risk.
