More practical bedroom in the district of Sierre

DomusHelp helps organize practical support to make the bedroom clearer, more accessible and more comfortable around the home in the district of Sierre and Central Valais. This subcategory concerns an intimate space used every day and every night: access to the bed, passage between the door and the bed, bedside table, lamp, switch, phone, glasses, night clothes, wardrobe, chair, curtains, window, simple heating, night-time path to the toilet or bathroom. It covers simple actions that help identify obstacles, clear a passage, bring essential objects closer, reorganize a bedside table, reposition light furniture, improve simple visual markers, reduce clutter on the floor or prepare a more precise request when a professional, a social and health service, an occupational therapist, a relative, a property manager or an owner needs to intervene. The interventions must remain simple, non-medical, non-nursing, non-structural, non-intrusive and respectful of the person’s privacy, rhythm and dignity.

What this help covers

This help may concern observing the bedroom, the path between the door and the bed, clearing objects placed on the floor, moving small light furniture, bringing a lamp, phone, glasses, glass of water, useful item of clothing or personal object closer when the person wants to keep it within reach. It can also help identify a loose rug, a cable, a table that is too low, an unstable chair, a passage that is too narrow, an awkward furniture corner, a dark area, a wardrobe that is difficult to access or a bedside table arrangement that forces the person to bend, twist or get up unnecessarily. The aim is to make going to bed, getting up, dressing, resting and moving at night easier, without medically changing the situation, without managing medication, without installing medical equipment and without creating a false impression of safety when falls, pain, balance, disorientation or mobility require a qualified assessment.

DomusHelp does not replace an occupational therapist, a health professional, a nurse, a social and health service, a doctor, a medical bed supplier, an electrician, a carpenter, a moving service, a property manager, an owner or an emergency service. In case of repeated fall, near fall, difficulty getting into or out of bed, pain, dizziness, night-time confusion, disorientation, loss of balance, wound, pressure sore risk, medical equipment, oxygen, medical bed, bed rail, restraint device, patient hoist, rapid loss of autonomy or concern about night-time safety, the request must be referred to a qualified professional or a service adapted to the situation. The bedroom is an intimate space: no intervention should be carried out without clear consent, no drawer, wardrobe, document, money, jewellery or personal object should be handled without explicit agreement, and no monitoring device, camera, sensor or automation should be proposed without a clear framework, valid consent and data protection. The person’s dignity, autonomy and safety always come before the speed of tidying or adapting the room.

Preferred providers

Insured light interior adaptation service

Suitable for observing the bedroom, clearing a simple passage, moving small objects, repositioning light furniture, making a lamp or phone easier to reach, restoring order around the bed or preparing a more precise request when a specialist needs to intervene.

Occupational therapist, social and health service or health professional

Suitable when the request concerns bed transfers, falls, pain, fatigue, balance, cognitive difficulties, use of a cane, walker, wheelchair, medical bed, bed rail or another health-related piece of equipment.

Craftsperson, furniture supplier or qualified assembly service

Suitable when the bedroom requires furniture assembly, wardrobe fixing, bed replacement, electrical installation, fixed lighting, heavy moving, repair or an intervention that goes beyond a simple non-structural adjustment.

Before the intervention

  • Identify the daily uses of the bedroom: entering, getting out of bed, dressing, reaching the light, using the phone, accessing glasses, reaching the toilet, bathroom or outside help.
  • Obtain the person’s clear consent and define what may be looked at, moved, opened or left strictly private.
  • Check whether the bedroom is used by one person, a couple, a family caregiver, a care service or home help, so that a necessary use is not blocked.
  • Describe what is in the way: loose rug, cable, clothing on the floor, box, low table, unstable chair, furniture too close to the bed, fragile object, lack of light, difficult access to the wardrobe or cluttered night-time path.
  • Ask whether there has been a fall, near fall, fear of falling, pain when getting up, dizziness, loss of balance, confused waking, difficulty turning over, sitting up, standing up or walking to the toilet.
  • Observe access to the bed: width of the passage, side used to get up, stability of existing supports, presence of slippers, cane, walker, phone, call device, lamp or switch reachable without a risky movement.
  • Check lighting and night-time markers only as points of attention, without modifying the electrical installation and without installing any fixed device without qualified support.
  • Check that the intervention can be done without dangerous carrying, without moving heavy furniture, without risky drilling, without complex dismantling, without medical handling and without physical or psychological constraint.
  • Keep essential objects accessible without cluttering the bedside table, bed edge or floor, and without sorting, preparing, moving or administering medication.
  • Avoid any solution that blocks access for a caregiver, family caregiver or emergency service, obstructs a window opening, hides a heat source, blocks ventilation or creates a new fall risk.
  • In case of medical, cognitive, structural, electrical or night-time safety risk, stop the simple request and refer it to the competent service.
