More practical bedroom in the district of West Raron

DomusHelp helps organize practical support to make the bedroom more practical, easier to understand and better adapted to daily actions in the district of West Raron and Upper Valais. This subcategory concerns simple adjustments that make getting up, going to bed, moving around the bed, accessing essential objects, clothes, lighting, the telephone, glasses, an existing aid or a night route easier. It can also help reduce clutter, better position a small piece of furniture, bring a bedside table closer, organize frequently used objects or prepare a more precise request when an occupational therapist, health professional, bedding specialist, technical aid supplier or furniture professional needs to intervene. The interventions must remain simple, non-medical, non-therapeutic, non-structural, non-electrical, non-intrusive and respectful of the person’s privacy.

What this help covers

This help may concern observing the bedroom with the person’s clear agreement, clearing a passage around the bed, repositioning a small light piece of furniture, improving access to a bedside table, a lamp, a switch, glasses, a telephone, water, tissues, a bell or an existing call device. It may also concern organizing frequently used clothes, identifying a troublesome rug, a cable on the floor, an obstacle near the bed, a difficult height, a poorly lit access point or a night route that is not easy to read toward the door or the toilet. The aim is to support daily independence, comfort and dignity, without moving dangerous loads, without modifying fixed furniture, without intervening on medical equipment and without creating a new risk of falling, confusion or intrusion into private life.

DomusHelp does not replace an occupational therapist, nurse, doctor, physiotherapist, medical bed supplier, technical aid specialist, carpenter, electrician or emergency service. In case of repeated fall, near fall, pain, weakness, dizziness, disorientation, difficulty getting into or out of bed, need for physical help when getting up or going to bed, wound, pressure sore risk, significant sleep disorder, medical equipment, medical bed, bed rail, bed pole, prescribed aid, unstable furniture, wall fixing, faulty socket, damaged cable or a situation that concerns relatives or carers, the request must be referred to a qualified professional or a service adapted to the situation. The bedroom is an intimate space: the person’s agreement, respect for their habits and protection of their personal belongings always come before the speed of the adaptation.

Preferred providers

Insured simple comfort and adaptation service

Suitable for observing the bedroom with agreement, clearing a simple passage, repositioning a small light piece of furniture, bringing useful objects closer, improving access to a lamp or bedside table and reporting that a specialized intervention is needed.

Occupational therapist or health and social care professional

Suitable when the bedroom is linked to falls, loss of balance, transfer difficulty, reduced mobility, significant fatigue, cognitive difficulty, a prescribed technical aid or a broader need for adaptation.

Bedding, technical aid or furniture specialist

Suitable when a bed needs to be adjusted or chosen, a height adapted, specialized equipment installed, heavy furniture handled, a fixed element stabilized or a solution checked because it goes beyond a simple rearrangement.

Before the intervention

  • Clarify the agreement of the person concerned before entering the bedroom, opening storage, moving a personal object or changing a sleep habit.
  • Identify the main difficulty: getting up, going to bed, moving around the bed, reaching the light, accessing clothes, putting glasses down, using the telephone or reaching the toilet at night.
  • Ask whether there has been a fall, near fall, pain, dizziness, disorientation, weakness, fear of falling or difficulty with a cane, walker, wheelchair or existing aid.
  • Identify nearby obstacles: rug, cable, shoe, laundry on the floor, furniture placed too far forward, bed corner, unstable chair, fragile object, passage that is too narrow or poorly lit area.
  • Check that small furniture or objects can be moved without dangerous effort, without blocking a door, without hiding a switch and without reducing access for help or emergency response.
  • Place essential objects within reasonable reach: lamp, telephone, glasses, water, tissues, bell or existing call device, without managing, sorting, dosing or deciding on medication.
  • Test the real route from the bed to the door, toilet, switch, wardrobe or bedside table, both in daylight and in a low-light situation.
  • Preserve ventilation, access to heating, visible sockets, windows, circulation around the bed and the possibility of intervening quickly if needed.
  • In rented housing, with fixed furniture, wall fixing, a specialized bed or medical equipment, check whether authorization or a qualified professional is necessary.
  • Avoid any imposed, infantilizing or overly quick adaptation: the person must be able to recognize their bedroom, find their belongings and understand what has been moved.
