Home meal delivery in the Hérens district

Start by indicating whether you are looking for a solution for yourself, helping someone close to you or interested in volunteering, then choose the municipality concerned. Your role changes the explanations, but never the ranking: public, non-profit and volunteer-based resources remain shown first, and private solutions appear only as complementary options when the need justifies them.

Page updated on .

Same order for everyone
The “I am helping someone close to me” pathway does not automatically lead to a paid offer. Public services and volunteer-based options remain shown first.
Six municipalities
Ayent, Evolène, Hérémence, Mont-Noble, Saint-Martin and Vex. The administrative municipality determines the correct contact.
Two CMS service pathways
Ayent is served by the Coteau site. The other five municipalities are served by the Hérens site, with separate volunteer delivery rounds.
Emergency
Choking, breathing difficulty, a severe allergic reaction or acute illness: call 144 or 112.

Start with your situation

Who are you seeking a solution for today?

Choose the pathway that reflects your situation. The underlying information and the order of resources remain the same: official services and volunteer-based options first, private solutions only when coverage, eligibility criteria or organisation do not meet the need.

Person concerned

I am looking for myself

I would like to receive meals at home, restart an interrupted service or understand the options available in my municipality.

  • Set up a temporary or regular solution.
  • Find out the delivery days, contacts and delivery method.
  • Check menus, allergens, textures and reheating instructions.
Family carer · family · trusted person

I am helping someone close to me

I want to organise or review a solution with the person I support, without deciding for them and without being automatically directed to paid services.

  • Check their agreement, habits and preferences.
  • Prepare the main contact, home access arrangements and absences.
  • Identify whether the need goes beyond meal delivery alone.
Local involvement

I would like to volunteer

I would like to take part in delivery rounds organised by the CMS in the area corresponding to my municipality or availability.

  • Identify the CMS site I should contact.
  • Check the conditions, mileage reimbursement and insurance.
  • Contact the team that organises volunteering directly.
DomusHelp rule: The visitor’s role personalises the pathway, the need determines the solution, and payment never determines the ranking. These buttons are only used to navigate within the page: they do not start an enquiry or send any information to a provider or sponsor.

Start with the actual situation

What need are you trying to address?

The appropriate service depends on the municipality, how long the support is needed, the person’s level of independence and the conditions of the chosen service.

A temporary need

Returning home, recovering from illness, unusual fatigue or temporary difficulty shopping and cooking. The chosen service confirms any minimum duration, the possible start date and the available frequency.

Regular support

Preparing a balanced meal has become consistently difficult. An assessment may be required before admission to the public service or before a delivery schedule is agreed.

A medical or urgent need

A prescribed diet, severe allergy, swallowing difficulty, suspected malnutrition or a sudden inability to eat must not be treated as a simple commercial order.

CMS Sion-Hérens-Conthey publishes criteria linked to age, loss of independence and physical or cognitive difficulties. Personal convenience alone is not included in its published criteria. Other providers may apply different conditions.

Family carer pathway

Organise a solution without deciding for the person

You have access to the same official, volunteer-based and non-profit services as a person looking for themselves. This pathway only adds the coordination, consent and continuity points that are useful to family carers.

Consent and preferences

Involve the person in the decision whenever they can express their wishes: frequency, menus, times, habits and the right to refuse or change their mind.

Administrative municipality

Identify the municipality, even when the address is in a village or hamlet, so that the correct CMS site is contacted from the outset.

Main contact

Define who receives calls, practical information and invoices, and who is authorised to request a change or suspension.

Access and absences

Plan for the intercom, floor, handover of the meal, a hospital stay, holidays or what should happen if nobody answers the door.

Health and nutrition

Severe allergy, swallowing difficulty, weight loss or a prescribed diet: contact the CMS, the provider or an appropriate health professional directly.

Support for the family carer

When coordination becomes burdensome, the CMS offers free support to family carers to provide information, guidance and help find a sustainable balance at home.

No automatic redirection to paid services. A private solution is considered only as a complement: for example, when the official service does not cover the address, its criteria are not met, the frequency is unsuitable or the person concerned asks for another option. A sponsor receives no priority.

Practical guidance

How DomusHelp can help prepare the enquiry

  • Identify the delivery municipality and the service responsible for that area.
  • Clarify whether the need is occasional, regular or urgent.
  • Prepare a short list of questions before contacting a provider.
  • Distinguish between meal delivery, grocery shopping and help preparing food at home.
  • Check the practical arrangements: access, delivery window, whether someone will be present, refrigeration and reheating.
  • Direct medical, nutritional or swallowing-related questions to the appropriate professionals.
  • Remember that a family member or another person close to them does not decide on their behalf when they are able to express their wishes.
  • Limit the information shared in a first email to what is strictly necessary.

Before any registration or order

What the provider must confirm directly

An information page never replaces the service’s current conditions or an assessment of the individual situation.

Area and eligibility

Municipality served, eligibility conditions, any assessment required and who is authorised to submit the request.

Delivery days and frequency

Delivery days, approximate time or time window, start date, number of meals and arrangements for weekends or public holidays.

Menus and portions

Composition, any choice available, portion size, dessert, soup or salad and menu rotation.

Allergens and diets

Recognised allergens, the adaptations genuinely available and the provider’s limits for prescribed diets.

Textures and swallowing

Regular, minced, puréed or otherwise modified textures. Any swallowing difficulty requires professional assessment.

Storage and reheating

Hot or chilled meal, storage time, temperature, equipment needed and reheating instructions.

Price and payment

Price per meal, any additional charges, invoicing, payment methods and the consequences of an unpaid bill.

Absence and cancellation

Cancellation deadline, holidays, hospital admission, meal handover, access to the building and the person to contact.

Preparing everyday arrangements

Six simple checks at home

  1. Check that the person concerned understands the process and agrees to it.
  2. Note the exact address, floor, lift, intercom and any access difficulties.
  3. Check that there is a working refrigerator and, where needed, suitable equipment for reheating the meal.
  4. Agree what should happen if nobody answers at the time of delivery.
  5. Keep the provider’s instructions and follow the stated storage times.
  6. Never change a prescribed diet, texture or medical instruction without professional advice.

Guidance by municipality

Your municipality determines the meal-service pathway

The district has six municipalities. For a village or hamlet, always state the administrative municipality in your enquiry to avoid being directed to the wrong service.

Verified official service

Two CMS pathways with distinct roles

The CMS handles the enquiry and organisation. Partner kitchens prepare the meals. Volunteers carry out the rounds according to the published schedule. Anyone wishing to order or change a meal must contact the appropriate CMS site, not the kitchen directly.

CMS Hérens site

  • Orders and changes: CMS Hérens site.
  • Meal preparation: Home Saint-Sylve in Vex, described by the CMS as holding the “Fourchette Verte” label.
  • Delivery: on Monday, Wednesday and Friday by volunteers.
  • Continuity: throughout the year, including public holidays, according to the CMS.
  • Meals: The CMS describes its general service as a chilled-meal system; confirm the exact storage and reheating instructions.

Volunteer for deliveries

The volunteer rounds described on this page are organised by the CMS. The CMS publishes information on supervision, information and training, mileage reimbursement and vehicle insurance cover.

Ayent

Volunteering – Coteau site

Published activities: delivering meals at home and transporting people. The CMS states that mileage is reimbursed at 75 centimes per kilometre and that casco insurance is provided.

Five municipalities served by the Hérens site

Volunteering – Hérens site

For Evolène, Hérémence, Mont-Noble, Saint-Martin and Vex. Published activities: delivering meals at home and transporting people, under the same mileage-reimbursement and insurance framework.

Telephone: 027 281 12 91
Email: herens.benevoles@cms-smz.ch

Conditions published by the CMS for volunteering
  • Have a vehicle and a driving licence.
  • Provide a clean special criminal-record extract.
  • Be able to communicate in French in a simple setting.
  • The commitment may be a few hours, once a week or once a month, depending on the agreed arrangement.

Delivery can help maintain social contact, but it does not replace a planned social visit, home care, safety monitoring or an emergency service.

A complementary option, never a commercial shortcut

Private solutions to be checked only when the need justifies them

Choosing “I am helping someone close to me” does not automatically lead to this section. These models become relevant only when the official service does not cover the address, its criteria are not met, its frequency is unsuitable or the person concerned explicitly wants another option. They are not equivalent to the public service with volunteer rounds.

Local caterer

One-off meals or an on-demand service

Confirm in writing the municipality served, whether the address is a main or holiday residence, the frequency, minimum order, delivery days, prices, allergens and available dietary options.

Nationwide delivery

Fresh or vacuum-packed meal boxes

Delivery is generally weekly through a logistics network. Check the postcode, cold chain, shelf life, reheating method and the absence of in-person support at home.

Restaurant delivery platform

Availability depends on the address and season

Availability depends on open restaurants, delivery radius, time of day and season. It must not be presented as stable coverage of the whole district.

DomusHelp publication rule. Private companies are named as operational providers only after direct verification of their offer, service area, terms and insurance. A commercial listing remains separate from public resources, is identified as such, receives no priority and provides no access to enquiries received.

When the need goes beyond delivery

Help, care, family-carer support and advice for older people

A meal may be only one part of the situation. Not all of these contacts take meal orders, but they may be useful when independence, health, finances or family organisation are involved.

Sion-Hérens-Conthey advice office: 027 322 07 41. Pro Senectute can provide advice and guidance, but the meal orders and delivery rounds described here are managed by the CMS.

Free support for family carers. The CMS states that designated contacts are available to inform, guide and support family carers confidentially. Contact details and opening times may change: use the official page to obtain the current details for the Coteau or Hérens site.

A careful framework

Limits, consent and sensitive personal data

Meal delivery may appear straightforward, but some situations directly involve health, independence and consent.

What DomusHelp does not promise
  • DomusHelp does not prepare or deliver meals itself.
  • DomusHelp does not guarantee admission, timing, frequency or the availability of a service.
  • DomusHelp does not guarantee that a menu is suitable for an allergy, a particular texture or a special diet.
  • DomusHelp does not control the provider’s kitchen, cold chain, hygiene or nutritional quality.
  • DomusHelp does not enter into contracts, make payments or cancel orders on someone’s behalf without explicit authority.
Consent and the role of relatives
  • The person concerned must be involved in the decision whenever they are able to express their wishes.
  • A family member or another person close to them may help make contact, but must not impose a service merely for family convenience.
  • Eating habits, culture, daily rhythm and the right to refuse must be respected.
  • A key, access code or delivery instruction should be shared only with the appropriate service and only to the extent necessary.
Health data and the first email

A first message to DomusHelp should remain general. Do not send diagnoses, medical records, an OASI/AHV number, an insurance card, a complete medication list, identity documents or intimate family information.

An allergy, prescribed texture or swallowing difficulty should be communicated directly to the appropriate provider, following its process and only to the extent necessary.

When to contact a health professional
  • Unintentional weight loss, weakness, dehydration or a persistent refusal to eat.
  • Difficulty chewing or swallowing, coughing during meals or choking episodes.
  • A prescribed diet for an illness, severe allergy or after surgery.
  • Confusion, a new inability to prepare or reheat a meal, or a safety risk at home.
  • In the event of immediate danger, choking or breathing difficulty, call 144 or 112.

Frequently asked questions

Quick answers

Does DomusHelp deliver meals in the Hérens district?

No. DomusHelp helps compare solutions and find the correct contact. The contract, meal preparation and delivery are handled by the chosen service or provider.

Which CMS site should be contacted for each municipality?

Ayent is served by the Coteau site. Evolène, Hérémence, Mont-Noble, Saint-Martin and Vex are served by the Hérens site.

Who prepares and who delivers the meals?

In Ayent, the EMS des Crêtes supplies the meals and volunteers provide daily delivery. In the other five municipalities, Home Saint-Sylve prepares the meals and volunteers deliver them on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Do the volunteers belong to Pro Senectute?

The official contacts published for meal-delivery rounds and volunteer recruitment are those of the CMS Sion-Hérens-Conthey. Pro Senectute can offer general advice to older people and those close to them, but it does not take the orders described on this page.

Can a family member or another close person submit the request?

Yes. The CMS states that an enquiry may be initiated by the person concerned, their family, nurses, a doctor or a hospital. The person concerned must nevertheless be involved in the decision whenever they are able to express their wishes.

Does the “I am helping someone close to me” pathway automatically lead to paid services?

No. The same public, non-profit and volunteer-based resources remain shown first. A private solution appears only as a complement when the official service does not meet the need, its criteria are not met or the person requests another option.

Does the selector at the top of the page transmit information?

No. The “I am looking for myself”, “I am helping someone close to me” and “I would like to volunteer” buttons are simple internal links. They do not start an enquiry or send any information to a provider or sponsor.

Is a special diet, allergy accommodation or modified texture guaranteed?

No. The CMS or provider must confirm what it can actually offer. A severe allergy, swallowing difficulty or prescribed diet requires direct clarification and, where necessary, advice from a health professional.

Do caterers, nationwide meal boxes and apps cover the whole district?

Not necessarily. Coverage may depend on the municipality, postcode, exact address, season, delivery days and minimum order. DomusHelp does not present a private company as operational before direct verification.

Does advertising provide access to enquiries or priority?

No. A commercial presence remains separate from public resources. It provides no access to enquiries or personal data and cannot influence the ranking, content or guidance offered.

Need to clarify the next step?
